The summer transfer window is still some time away. Before Chelsea start making fresh signings, they need to get the managerial situation sorted first. Xabi Alonso is the frontrunner. But Andoni Iraola is very much in the running as well. Whoever it is that gets the job is expected to have more of a say in football matters than the club\u2019s last few managers.<\/p>\n

Of course, the Blues cannot make the mistake of letting things drag for too long. Otherwise, many of their transfer targets might end up agreeing to moves before Chelsea even have a manager in place. In fact, it looks like one of them already has.<\/p>\n

According to talkSPORT, Anthony Gordon has agreed terms with Bayern Munich. But there remains a significant gulf between the Bavarian giants and Newcastle United.<\/p>\n

Newcastle United are believed to be looking for around \u00a375 million to part ways with Gordon. Bayern Munich might not be ready to meet that valuation. So, there could still be a chance for Chelsea.<\/p>\n

There is no doubt that Gordon has been a solid player for Newcastle United. He has scored 10 goals in the Champions League this season alone. For context, Eden Hazard managed that in his entire career.<\/p>\n

Of course, I am not saying that Gordon is a better player than Hazard. But he does have his qualities. That being said, is he someone Chelsea should splash out a \u00a375 million transfer fee to sign? It does not feel so.<\/p>\n

Would Gordon be a good signing?<\/h2>\n

Gordon would fit the criteria of a Premier League-proven player who has experience in Europe as well. And he would probably be a solid addition to this Chelsea team.<\/p>\n

The Blues are weak on the flanks right now. They spent a ton of money signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United and Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund last summer. But neither has proven to be a success story.<\/p>\n

Gordon would represent an upgrade on both those players. But is the Newcastle United winger the type of player who will turn Chelsea back into title contenders on his own? In my opinion, he is not.<\/p>\n

It remains to be seen if Chelsea do end up pushing to sign Gordon this summer or not. But it is pretty likely that they would want to bring in another winger despite the impending arrival of Geovany Quenda, who looks like an elite talent himself.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
