With Xabi Alonso closing in on the managerial role at Chelsea, Jason Cundy has admitted that he never wanted fan favourite Cesc Fabregas at Stamford Bridge.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cesc Fabregas quickly emerged as a candidate in Chelsea\u2019s search for a permanent successor to Liam Rosenior, driven by his spectacular managerial rise at Como. The Stamford Bridge hierarchy held a deep admiration for their former midfielder, placing him on a shortlist alongside names like Xabi Alonso and Andoni Iraola, but it was very much short-lived.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard enjoys total control over football operations and a significant ownership stake in Italy, where he has guided Como toward a historic European qualification. <\/p>\n

Furthermore, reports suggested that he was eager to remain in Serie A to continue his development, with some indicating he would ultimately prefer to hold out for the Arsenal job in the future.<\/p>\n

Jason Cundy believes Cesc Fabregas could have ended up like Graham Potter at Chelsea<\/h2>\n

Despite Fabregas being the favourite when we ran our next manager poll here at The Chelsea Chronicle, Jason Cundy believes that hiring him would have been a mistake.<\/p>\n

Speaking on TNT Sports, he had this to say.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thing with Cesc that worries me a little bit is are we making a similar mistake to Graham Potter. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I just wonder whether Cesc needs to go and he\u2019s done a brilliant job by the way, I just wonder whether he needs to go and get the next job before he comes. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat was my only concern, but of course, what\u2019s Cesc to Chelsea, right? I get the link.\u201d<\/p>\n

How does Xabi Alonso differ to Cesc Fabregas?<\/h2>\n

While both are elite former midfielders who prioritise possession, Xabi Alonso and Cesc Fabregas offer completely different propositions for Chelsea. <\/p>\n

Alonso represents a more proven, world-class manager who has already won major league titles with Bayer Leverkusen and managed at the highest level with Real Madrid. <\/p>\n

In contrast, Fabregas is still in the dawn of his managerial journey at Como. While highly intelligent and deeply connected to Chelsea\u2019s history, he lacks Alonso\u2019s elite-level CV, making him a far more speculative, high-risk appointment for a high-pressure dugout.<\/p>\n
