Cesc Fabregas has said he “would be crazy” to concentrate on speculation linking him with the vacant Chelsea managerial role. The Spaniard, who played for the Blues between 2014 and 2019 has emerged as a potential candidate for the Stamford Bridge hotseat in the wake of Liam Rosenior’s sacking earlier this week.<\/p>\n
The Englishman managed just three months of his six-and-a-half year contract before he was given his walking papers by Chelsea on Wednesday, following an uninspired run of form in the Premier League. The club explained: “This has not been a decision the club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season.”<\/p>\n
Calum McFarlane has stepped up in the interim and will coach the club until the end of the season as the Blues look to qualify for European football and clinch the FA Cup. Fabregas – among others – have been linked with taking up permanent tenure in the capital this summer, as Chelsea plan for the future.<\/p>\n

Speaking about his links with his former club earlier this week during his pre-Genoa press conference, Fabregas said: “Nothing to say about that.<\/p>\n
“It’d be stupid to think about that now, my focus is on the next game against Genoa. I believe I will continue my chapter as Como head coach and focus on the next games.<\/p>\n
“I would be crazy to think of anything else rather than these next five games and getting my team into Europe for the first time in history. I have not seen or heard any comments that my president said other than he told me he values me very highly.”<\/p>\n
However, Como president Mirwan Suwarso has since explained that he will not stand in Fabregas’ way at the end of the season, should he choose to return to the club he became a legend with during his playing days.<\/p>\n

You want your employees to stay with you for as long as possible but at the end of the day we don’t own him and he’s free to go to Chelsea if he wishes.”<\/p>\n
Fabregas, who also turned out for Arsenal and Barcelona, has a minority stake in Como after initially joining in the twilight years of his career back in 2022. He made the move into the managerial game the following year as an interim coach, before signing a permanent deal the following year.<\/p>\n
In his first full season at the reins, Fabregas managed to lead Como to a 10th place finish in the Serie A, and are currently fighting to secure Champions League football for 2026\/27.<\/p>\n
Chelsea, meanwhile, are at major risk of missing out on any form of European football next season.<\/p>\n
At the time of writing, the Blues sit eighth in the Premier League standings, 10 points adrift of the top five with just four games to go. However, they will have to wait a little while to change matters just yet.<\/p>\n
That’s because Chelsea are in action in the FA Cup on Sunday, taking on Leeds United at Wembley in the semi-finals. Kick-off is slated for 3pm.<\/p>\n
