Despite Chelsea\u2019s defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final, Alan Shearer was full of praise for the impact that Levi Colwill had on the game.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Blues were defeated 1-0 by City at Wembley, with Antoine Semenyo\u2019s outrageous flick breaking the deadlock with less than 20 minutes to play.<\/p>\n

Calum McFarlane\u2019s side had defended resolutely throughout the game, led by Levi Colwill in just his second start of the season.<\/p>\n

Alan Shearer praises \u2018outstanding\u2019 Levi Colwill in FA Cup final<\/h2>\n

The England international impressed in front of national team manager Thomas Tuchel, with him equally as good in position as out of it.<\/p>\n

Frequently, Colwill would break the lines with his passing into midfield or attack, getting Chelsea moving in attack.<\/p>\n

Alan Shearer was very impressed by this aspect of his game, describing his passing during commentary for BBC Sport as \u2018outstanding\u2019.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cColwill\u2019s passing has been absolutely outstanding up to now. Whether he\u2019s played that ball into the midfield or pinged it out wide, he\u2019s got it spot on at the minute.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Englishman was a key member of the back three for Chelsea, a system frequently used by Xabi Alonso when he was in charge of Bayer Leverkusen.<\/p>\n

Colwill will play crucial role under Xabi Alonso<\/h2>\n

In the aftermath of Chelsea\u2019s defeat, it was heavily reported that Alonso had agreed to become the new Chelsea manager on a four-year contract.<\/p>\n

It is expected he will be given more control over proceedings than previous managers have. Alonso has already asked for Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella to stay at the club this summer.<\/p>\n

The incoming manager also wants new centre-backs to be brought in by Chelsea, likely to complement Colwill who looks a stalwart in this side.<\/p>\n

His passing capabilities will fit right in with the Spaniard\u2019s style of play, and is a relationship Chelsea fans should be excited about seeing in action.<\/p>\n
