What Kyle Walker-Peters didn’t say about West Ham in latest interview speaks volumes

The full-back has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season, often second choice behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Most Irons supporters would probably agree that Walker-Peters is a reliable squad player, but is not of starting quality.

West Ham not mentioned as Kyle Walker-Peters reflects on career highlights

West Ham posted a Q&A with Kyle Walker-Peters on the club website on Thursday, in which he discussed his entire playing career.

However, West Ham fans may have noticed that Walker-Peters did not mention the club in any of his answers.

When asked for his top three personal achievements, Walker-Peters replied, “I’d say making my England debut against Switzerland in March 2022, winning the EFL Championship Play-Offs with Southampton in 2023/24, and starting in the UEFA Champions League for Tottenham against Barcelona in December 2018.”

Walker-Peters also left out his only goal for West Ham, the Hammers’ third in their 3-1 victory over Burnley in November, from his favourite goals.

“The first would be one I scored for Southampton against Manchester City in January 2022,” he said. “It was with the outside of my foot!

“The second would be another I scored for Southampton, against Leeds United in August 2022. It was some beautiful football; I made a run in behind and put it in the far post. And then I’d say a left-footed strike against Bristol City, in November 2023.”

Walker-Peters’ three most memorable matches also came long before he joined West Ham last summer.

“Playing in the Champions League against Bayern Munich at the Allianz, in December 2019, my England debut and playing against Barcelona in the Champions League,” he added.

Meanwhile, Walker-Peters named former Tottenham star Dele Alli, current Spurs striker Dominic Solanke and Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo as his favourite teammates ever.

Walker-Peters has only been at West Ham for less than 12 months, but it was eye-opening to see him not mention the club once.

That probably also has something to do with the Hammers falling short of expectations this season, as it looks like they will be relegated.

Perhaps one of Walker-Peters’ answers would change if he helps West Ham avoid relegation on Sunday or win promotion next season.
