Gabriel and Martinelli help Brazil to first win | International

Gabriel played the full 90 minutes while Gabriel Martinelli got his first minutes of the 2026 World Cup as Brazil strolled to a 3-0 success against Haiti.

After drawing 1-1 against Morocco in their opening game, the Selecao needed a win to strengthen their chances of a knockout stage berth, and that was rarely in doubt thanks to a Matheus Cunha double and a Vinicius Jr strike just before half-time in Philadelphia.

Just as he had been against Morocco, Gabriel was named in the heart of defence by coach Carlo Ancelotti and kept his first clean sheet of the tournament on his 19th cap for his country.

Meanwhile, Martinelli was introduced from the bench in the 64th minute when he replaced former West Ham United man Lucas Paqueta to remain five caps ahead of his clubmate.

That ensured he featured in his second World Cup, and came close to his first goal in the competition within moments of his introduction when he smashed a shot against the crossbar after linking up with Vinicius Jr, but any celebrations would have been cut short by the offside flag.

With four points secured from their first two games, Brazil now top the group on goal difference from Morocco, and at least a point against Scotland in Miami on Wednesday would see them advance to the last 32.

Saturday’s action sees three Gunners in action, with two looking to follow up their opening game wins by booking their place in the knockouts.

Viktor Gyokeres will hope to find the net again when Sweden face the Netherlands, while Kai Havertz will look to add to his two-goal tally so far when Germany play the Ivory Coast. Meanwhile, Piero Hincapie’s Ecuador will be aiming to get some points on the board when they’re pitted against Curacao.
