“There’s still time” – Fans deliver verdict on Chelsea signing Morgan Rogers for £117 million after performance in England win over France

Chelsea fans are urging the club to back out of the £117 million move for Morgan Rogers following his performance at the FIFA World Cup. Many believe that he is not worth the fee as he failed ot get a goal or an assist in the 6-4 win over England in the third-place playoff.

Thomas Tuchel started Rogers in the game against France, playing him down the middle. Bukayo Saka started on the right, with Marcus Rashford on the left, and Ivan Toney leading the attack.

The game was Rogers’ first since news broke out earlier in the day that Chelsea had hijacked Arsenal’s move for Rogers this summer. The Blues swooped in with a £117 million bid, while the Gunners continued to negotiate a fee, though personal terms were agreed.

He was under the limelight even before the game kicked off, but failed to impress. The Aston Villa star was coming into the game after an assist in the semifinal vs Argentina, but could not add to his tally.

The Blues fans were not impressed with his display and were quick to take to social media to post about it. Many said:

Morgan Rogers is set for a medical on Monday, July 20, when the players return to England following the FIFA World Cup. He will be Chelsea’s second signing since Xabi Alonso took over, after they signed Marco Palestra earlier this month.

What next for Chelsea under Xabi Alonso?

Chelsea appointed Xabi Alonso this summer following the sacking of Liam Rosenior. The Spaniard has taken charge of one behind-the-scenes friendly, in which the Blues won 3-1 against Crawley Town.

Alonso played a key role in signing Rogers, as he did for Marco Palestra as well. He spoke about the Italian last week and said:

“He has many great qualities to adapt to modern football, he is a player that gives you versatility in his positioning, playing in a back four and a back five, even. Sometimes he has to play on the left, physically really strong, we need to keep working with him in his development and training to adapt to the Premier League.”

“But I am pretty sure and I am positive that it will take a lot of time and he has a very good mentality in terms of competitiveness. In terms of his hunger to improve, so I am happy that he is with him, he has been already training and we are really looking forward to getting the best from him.”

Chelsea went trophyless last season and finished 10th in the table.
