Rogers told Sky Sports: “I didn’t play against him (Caicedo) much this year (2024-25) because of positions we played. Last year, played him at home, he’s quick, strong. I’ll be honest, I couldn’t get past him.”

Rogers will become Chelsea’s record signing at £117m. It comes after the club have raked in initial fees of £47.5m from Marc Cucurella’s sale, £48m from Andrey Santos and £18m from Tyrique George’s deal.

That pretty much covers the Rogers fee, which is set to be paid up front without add-ons. But where does it stand on the world stage? Currently, Neymar remains the most expensive deal, joining PSG for £200m.

Kylian Mbappe left PSG for Real Madrid for a little over £165m, and Alexander Isak joined Liverpool for a fee of £125m. Elliot Anderson has bounced into fourth this summer, costing Manchester City £116m.

If Rogers’ deal does go ahead as expected, he will become the fourth-most expensive transfer in history, costing Chelsea just £1m more than City paid for Anderson. Joao Felix joined Atletico Madrid for £113m.
