Chelsea have beaten Premier League rivals Arsenal to the signing of Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers after agreeing a British-record £117 million transfer, according to multiple reports.

The England international is said to have chosen a move to Stamford Bridge after Chelsea reached a verbal agreement with Villa for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder, ending weeks of speculation over his future. Reports claim the deal will surpass the previous British transfer record and represents one of the biggest moves of the summer transfer window.

ARSENAL had been heavily linked with Rogers throughout the window, with manager Mikel Arteta reportedly identifying the versatile forward as one of the club’s top attacking targets.

However, CHELSEA are understood to have accelerated negotiations over the weekend, moving ahead of their London rivals to secure an agreement with Aston Villa.

The proposed fee is reported to be worth £117 million, making Rogers the most expensive British player in history if the transfer is completed. While the clubs are believed to have reached an agreement in principle, the move remains subject to the player completing a medical and finalising personal terms. Reports suggest Rogers is expected to sign a long-term contract with Chelsea.

Rogers has emerged as one of English football’s brightest young talents following an impressive spell at Aston Villa. Since arriving from Middlesbrough in 2024, he has developed into a key figure under Unai Emery, impressing with his pace, strength, creativity and ability to operate across multiple attacking positions.

His performances also earned him recognition at senior international level with England.

Chelsea’s reported capture of Rogers continues the club’s aggressive recruitment strategy as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign. Landing one of England’s most highly rated young attackers would represent another major statement of intent, particularly after beating Arsenal in the race for his signature.

For ARSENALmissing out on Rogers is likely to be a significant setback. Reports suggest the Gunners had made the Villa forward a priority target but were ultimately unable to match CHELSEA‘s decisive move in the market.

The north London club is now expected to turn its attention to alternative attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
