Chelsea’s new manager candidate “ruled out” by club
Chelsea have ruled out an attempt to bring Xavi Hernandez in as their new manager according to Ben Jacobs’ reporting today.

The Chelsea chase for a manager is going to turn into a war of sources, and all the top insiders will want their moment in the spotlight.
Today Miguel Delaney launched the idea that Xavi Hernandez could be in the mix for the job, adding him to the list of names we’ve already heard.

But this afternoon Ben Jacobs, who is very well connected with the current Chelsea regime, contradicted the Independent reporter somewhat.
He confirmed that Chelsea have made a “formative” approach (we’re not sure that word means what he thinks it does), but claims Chelsea are “not expected to proceed,” and that the former Barcelona man has been “ruled out by Chelsea”.
Frankly Xavi never seemed like a prime candidate to us anyway – he doesn’t have the Premier League experience as player or coach that the club are said to be looking for. He’s a big name, but not much more than that.
Then again, once options start turning us down, there’s no telling how far down the list we’ll have to go.
