Bayern Munich consider Michael Olise completely untouchable this summer, more than a decade after Chelsea submitted a world-record bid for another extraordinarily gifted winger. Olise has proven to be an astute signing for Bayern since his arrival from Crystal Palace in 2024, now forming a formidable attacking trio alongside Harry Kane and Luis Diaz, which has established itself as one of the most feared forward lines on the continent.

Olise, who honed his craft at Reading before truly making his mark at Selhurst Park, continues to produce moments of genuine brilliance and already has an impressive 21 goals to his name. His breathtaking strike against Real Madrid in the Champions League stands out as one of several jaw-dropping contributions, and Bayern’s hierarchy remain adamant that he will never be permitted to leave.

That firm stance originates from when Chelsea attempted to lure Franck Ribery away from the Allianz Arena at the very peak of his powers.

It was at that point Bayern pledged never to part with a player whose departure would leave them weakened, a principle they have steadfastly upheld ever since.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge explained: “In 2009, we received an incredible offer from Chelsea for Franck Ribery. At the time, it would have been a new world transfer record.

“I then went to our then (chief financial officer) Karl Hopfner and Uli Hoeness. We discussed for two hours what to do with that offer.

“On that day, we made a fundamental decision: that in the future, we would no longer sell any player whom we would miss from a sporting perspective.

“That unwritten rule still applies today. For a player like Olise, there is no price tag that would make us flinch.”

Olise made the move to the Allianz Arena for approximately £50million, though the Bavarians could yet secure a considerable profit should they choose to part ways with the Frenchman.

This represents the second successive campaign in which the 24-year-old has reached the 20-goal landmark, with Rummenigge praising his unassuming character.

“He is a wonderful player,” the German legend observed. “I also like the fact that he is so reserved and almost media-shy. That is the exception in today’s world.

“He is a good guy, and on the pitch he is of course outstanding, the way he celebrates football and almost performs magic. That is why it doesn’t surprise me that he is so incredibly popular and hyped among our fans.”

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany is certain that Olise will be a global star of the game as he continues to thrive at one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.

The Belgian declared: “He’s on the right track now. Everything he does is right. His level now is one of the best in Europe.”

Chelsea’s prospects of tempting Olise to Stamford Bridge appear to have evaporated, having repeatedly squandered the chance to sign him in previous windows.
