Ryan Gravenberch slams Liverpool fans’ boos after Chelsea draw – ‘We didn’t deserve it’

Liverpool were booed off by their own fans following their 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday afternoon and goalscorer Ryan Gravenberch felt the reaction was harsh

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch believes that the team didn’t deserve to be booed off by supporters following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Anfield.

Gravenberch broke the deadlock with a superb strike after just five minutes, before Enzo Fernandez levelled when his low free-kick crept in at the Kop end. Reds supporters were quick to voice their frustration when Arne Slot chose to withdraw Rio Ngumoha midway through the second half, bringing on Alexander Isak in his place.

Many booed again at the final whistle – and Gravenberch didn’t feel that reaction was warranted.

Addressing that second wave of jeering, Gravenberch told TNT Sports: “To be honest, we need them (the fans) behind us.

“OK we didn’t win, but I don’t really think we deserved this (reaction). The fans have to be behind us for the full 90 minutes because when they were behind us in the second half, we were pressing really well. We need them. Hopefully they wouldn’t do it again in the next two games”, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Turning his attention to the failure to hold onto the advantage his goal had handed the Reds, Gravenberch continued: “Yes, of course we are (disappointed) because we have to share the points.

“We wanted the three points but obviously they are a very good team, who play well here, so in the end I do think they deserved a point as well.

“We created chances, with a couple coming from Dom (Szoboszlai). If we had been a bit luckier, those would’ve gone in. In the end, we didn’t make it so we are a bit disappointed.” Gravenberch added: “It hasn’t been a great season from us. There are still two games left so we have to try to win those to secure our Champions League spot.”
