Chelsea have met Andoni Iraola and believe the Spaniard is more than ready to take on a big job according to reports.

The Blues are in the midst of searching for a new head coach having sacked Liam Rosenior last month, less than four months after appointing him.

Rosenior became the second head coach to leave Stamford Bridge this season following the departure of Enzo Maresca in January.

Chelsea believe Iraola is ready to take on big job

There’s understood to be a shortlist of five or six names for the job, with Iraola and Xabi Alonso believed to be the favoured candidates.

Chelsea are thought to have carried out checks on Marco Silva, Filipe Luis and Oliver Glasner, but they aren’t said to feature as highly in the club’s thinking currently.

Iraola is attracting strong interest from Crystal Palace, who could be playing Europa League football next season if they win the Conference League.

Alonso is said to be Chelsea’s preferred choice, but The Guardian have reported the Blues have met with Iraola to speak with him about the role.

The report adds there’s a respect for the job he’s done at Bournemouth, and a sense he’s more than capable of taking on a big job.

Chelsea are believed to want their new head coach in place before the start of the World Cup next month.
