Gabby Agbonlahor is convinced Tottenham have the ‘slowest player in the Premier League’
Tottenham’s disappointing draw against Leeds United has come under heavy scrutiny, with Gabby Agbonlahor singling out one player in particular for strong criticism.
Many Tottenham Hotspur fans have every right to be frustrated with their side’s performance against Leeds United on Monday night.
Spurs started the game well in the first half but failed to make their early dominance count before Leeds slowly grew into the contest.
Mathys Tel struck first, but his early second-half goal was quickly cancelled out by a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty, one which Tel conceded after a moment of madness inside the box.
That draw now leaves Tottenham just two points above the drop zone, a gap that could well have been four had they beaten Daniel Farke’s side.
Gabby Agbonlahor slams Richarlison after Tottenham draw
Gabby Agbonlahor has now delivered his verdict on the performances from several Tottenham players, and the former Aston Villa forward was clearly far from impressed by what he witnessed on Monday night.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor criticised Richarlison’s display and even labelled the Brazilian one of the slowest players in the Premier League.
He also praised Tel for trying to make things happen, while questioning the performances of Randal Kolo Muani and Conor Gallagher.
Agbonlahor said, “I would put it out there that Richarlison is one of the slowest players in the Premier League. I would bet with anyone that Richarlison is the slowest player in the Premier League.
“The amount of times he ran through and Joe Rodon, he is not a quick centre-half, got the ball out of him. Horrendous performance from him.
“Great goal by Tel, he was the only one trying to get on the ball, make things happen and get at players. Kolo Muani has got one goal and one assist in 27 appearances. He is a French international that will probably go to the World Cup.
“I am looking at this group of players and I am like, Conor Gallagher, that is not the Conor Gallagher Spurs thought they were signing. That is not the one that was at Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
“Totally different player. Defensively so poor as well. That was a painful watch and, at times, Leeds were in first gear, stepped it up a bit in the last 20 minutes and should have won.”
Spurs facing huge final two games
Spurs simply have to improve on their display in their final two outings in the Premier League if they are to avoid relegation, with plenty still left to play for.
Should Tottenham manage four points from their last two matches, they could well secure their Premier League safety.
Up next, though, is a daunting trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, with Spurs hoping to avoid defeat before a huge home clash against Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Depending on the results in matchweek 37, that encounter could well become a must-win game for Tottenham.
