Chelsea Have Set ‘Date’ To Appoint New Manager Amid Claims ‘Positive Talks’ Have Been Held With ‘Leading Contender’

Chelsea are hoping to announce a new head coach by “the middle of June”, according to reports.
Football.London claim that the “date” has been pencilled in as they hold talks with potential managers.
The Blues parted ways with Liam Rosenior after the 3-0 defeat to Brighton last month, with Calum McFarlane taking charge on an interim basis for the rest of the season.
McFarlane has had a mixed start to life in the dugout, having secured a place in the FA Cup final in his first fixture, before presiding over an abject home defeat to Nottingham Forest. They put in a much-improved display in last weekend’s draw against Liverpool at Anfield.
Who are the candidates to succeed Rosenior?
GiveMeSport (and numerous other outlets) have confirmed that Chelsea have held “positive talks” with former Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso.
The Spaniard is currently deemed the “leading contender” for the job, having indicated that he is open to managing a Premier League club.
However, Alonso is not the only candidatewith the likes of Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva having been contacted as well.

Chelsea have taken their time over their next appointment
Following Rosenior’s departure, the club said that they would “undertake a process of self-reflection”.
What this has meant in reality is that sounding out new managers has taken longer than usual. If Football.London‘s timeline is accurate; it means there would have been a two-month gap between the sacking of one coach and the arrival of a new one.
Alonso is seemingly the candidate they favour at present, but it remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached between both parties.
