Man Utd Are ‘Ready’ To Table £43M Bid As They Try To Beat Chelsea In Battle For 54 Cap International

Man Utd are targeting AC Milan defender Strahinja Pavlovic, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Corriere dello Sport claim that the Red Devils are “ready to drop” €50m (£43m) on the Serbian, who has been capped 54 times by his country.

Pavlovic has had a strong season for the Rossoneri, but the Serie A side will be under pressure to sell players this summer if they don’t secure Champions League qualification.

Max Allegri’s side are currently sitting in 4th place but they are only above Roma on their head-to-head record.

There could be competition for Pavlovic

It is believed that a number of Premier League clubs are interested in the centre-back. Chelsea have been the team most regularly linked with the player in recent weeks.

However, the Blues are not expected to make any moves before they appoint a new manager. Xabi Alonso is favourite for the post at Stamford Bridge, but he is demanding control over recruitment.

It means that, even if Pavlovic has been identified as a target by their recruitment team to strengthen the middle of defence, any decision on whether to go after him will be delayed, giving United a chance to steal the defender from under their noses.

Man Utd do have other priorities

Heading into the summer transfer window, Director of Football Jason Wilcox has made reinforcing the midfield the primary focus of his recruitment strategy. A left-back and a winger are also on the agenda.

While moves for centre-halves have been considered, it won’t be prioritised, so even if there is genuine interest in Pavlovic, a bid is unlikely to be imminent.
