Joao Pedro tells Chelsea what position he wants to play, he’s made it ‘very clear’

He has already reached the 20-goal mark in all competitions for the 2025/26 season, including 15 in the Premier League.

However, his recent form has dipped with the direction of the Blues’ season, scoring one goal in his last five games in the top-flight.

And although rumors have linked Pedro with a move to Barcelona, he remains a vital player at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Pedro sees himself as a number nine

Speaking in interviews with TNT Sports and Lance!, Joao Pedro gave his honest thoughts on the positions he has found himself in throughout his career.

“Since I arrived at Chelsea, I made it very clear because at Watford I played as a No.10, as a No.9. At Brighton too. But since coming here, it’s something I pushed for a lot – I wanted to play only as a No.9.

“When you keep changing positions, you lose some of the feeling for the role. Since the start of the season, I’ve been working a lot with Chelsea’s staff, always trying to improve in some aspects.”

Chelsea’s striker options are limited as they are

Chelsea’s striker situation remains a major concern, as the squad lacks a proven goalscorer to lead the line outside of Joao Pedro. The Brazilian has been a bright spot, but the depth behind him is worrying.

Summer signing Liam Delap has struggled to adapt, and young prospect Marc Guiu remains unproven at this level.

However, Nicolas Jackson is returning in the summer and Emanuel Emegha is set to join from sister club Strasbourg, so there are some decisions to make for the new manager.
