Chelsea keeping tabs on Rowe

Chelsea and Man Utd are keeping tabs on Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

They are two of the numerous Premier League admirers who are closely following the former Norwich City prospect’s development. Rowe has grown into the season and recently starred against Aston Villa in the Europa League.

The report denies rumours that one English club has already placed a bid for the 22-year-old, but it does acknowledge that his most likely destination is the Premier League. Rowe, who could be a replacement for Alejandro Garnacho at Chelsea, is likely to cost around €40 million.

Fabregas appointment possible

Como president Mirwan Suwarso has revealed that he won’t stand in Cesc Fabregas’ way if the 38-year-old expresses a desire to take the vacant Chelsea job.

The former midfielder has been named as one of the potential candidates to replace Liam Rosenior, following the 41-year-old’s sacking on Wednesday. As things stand, Chelsea are not planning to make a permanent appointment before the end of the season.

“If that makes him happy, that’s him. You want your employees to stay with you for as long as possible, but at the end of the day, we don’t own him and he’s free to go to Chelsea if he wishes,” Suwarso told City AM.

Lampard not interested in Chelsea speculation

Frank Lampard insists that he is only interested in his Coventry City job amid speculation that he could return to Chelsea for a third coaching spell.

The legendary former Blues midfielder spent 18 months at Stamford Bridge between 2019 and 2021 before returning for an interim spell the following year. Under his guidance, Coventry have now returned to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years.

“Well, I definitely don’t want to talk about Liam and Chelsea because I’ve been there and I never want to talk too much about managers because of the context behind the scenes… Chelsea’s a big part of my life, but at the moment it’s their business, and my business is here,” he said.

Paez facing criticism

Chelsea loanee Kendry Paez is coming in for increasing criticism at River Plate after previously putting in some promising performances.

The Ecuadorian wonderkid was loaned to the Argentine giants in January after the Blues decided to cut his spell at Strasbourg short. Paez had struggled in France and was fiercely criticised for his lifestyle off the pitch.

He recently earned praise for his outings with River, but a poor performance in the Superclasico against Boca Juniors on Sunday has now seen him described as a “soft player” by club legend Reinaldo Merlo, who also took offence with Paez’s overall demeanour.

It has been a mixed loan spell for the youngster so far. He needs to knuckle down to ensure that his incredibly promising career does not go off the rails.
