Jason Cundy admits he was worried about Cesc Fabregas becoming Chelsea manager
With Xabi Alonso closing in on the managerial role at Chelsea, Jason Cundy has admitted that he never wanted fan favourite Cesc Fabregas at Stamford Bridge.
Cesc Fabregas quickly emerged as a candidate in Chelsea’s search for a permanent successor to Liam Rosenior, driven by his spectacular managerial rise at Como. The Stamford Bridge hierarchy held a deep admiration for their former midfielder, placing him on a shortlist alongside names like Xabi Alonso and Andoni Iraola, but it was very much short-lived.
The Spaniard enjoys total control over football operations and a significant ownership stake in Italy, where he has guided Como toward a historic European qualification.
Furthermore, reports suggested that he was eager to remain in Serie A to continue his development, with some indicating he would ultimately prefer to hold out for the Arsenal job in the future.

Jason Cundy believes Cesc Fabregas could have ended up like Graham Potter at Chelsea
Despite Fabregas being the favourite when we ran our next manager poll here at The Chelsea Chronicle, Jason Cundy believes that hiring him would have been a mistake.
Speaking on TNT Sports, he had this to say.
“The thing with Cesc that worries me a little bit is are we making a similar mistake to Graham Potter.
“And I just wonder whether Cesc needs to go and he’s done a brilliant job by the way, I just wonder whether he needs to go and get the next job before he comes.
“That was my only concern, but of course, what’s Cesc to Chelsea, right? I get the link.”

How does Xabi Alonso differ to Cesc Fabregas?
While both are elite former midfielders who prioritise possession, Xabi Alonso and Cesc Fabregas offer completely different propositions for Chelsea.
Alonso represents a more proven, world-class manager who has already won major league titles with Bayer Leverkusen and managed at the highest level with Real Madrid.
In contrast, Fabregas is still in the dawn of his managerial journey at Como. While highly intelligent and deeply connected to Chelsea’s history, he lacks Alonso’s elite-level CV, making him a far more speculative, high-risk appointment for a high-pressure dugout.
