Bacary Sagna Names The “Perfect Man” To Replace Pep Guardiola At Man City

Former Man City defender Bacary Sagna has backed club legend Vincent Kompany to succeed Pep Guardiola in the dugout at the Etihad.

Sagna played alongside the Belgian for three years following his move from Arsenal in 2014, and asked who he would like to become the club’s manager after Guardiola, he said:

“I think Vincent Kompany. He’s an ex-captain, a Manchester City lover and was one of the first big players to arrive at City after Robinho.”

“I think Kompany would be the perfect man for City. It makes sense to bring him home to his club.”

Man City fans (and Guardiola) would back Kompany’s appointment

Sagna is ana agreement with the majority of supporters in wanting their former captain back at the club.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that Guardiola has also predicted that Kompany will manage the Cityzens. Speaking back in 2023, he said:

“His destiny to be Man City boss is written in the stars. Sooner or later, he will be manager here. It is going to happen. I don’t know when, but it is going to happen. It’s my feeling.”

Kompany was Burnley coach at the time, but since then, he has gone on to bigger and better things, winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich.

Another manager is the favourite to succeed Guardiola

Despite the clamour for Kompany’s return, though, it appears that City may go in another direction if they do appoint a new head coach.

Reliable reports suggest that ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is currently the leading contender for the position if Guardiola calls it a day at the end of the season.

It seems that Kompany is happy to stay at Bayern, for the time being, but you do think it is only a matter of time (as Sagna says) before he comes home.
