West Ham United’s survival hopes were dealt another blow after losing 3-1 at Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
The result leaves them stuck in 18th position in the Premier League standings, two points adrift of 17th-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
The Hammers started poorly, conceding in the 15th minute when Nick Woltemade produced a precise volley inside the area, following a bad pass from goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.
Moments later, William Osula doubled the hosts’ lead, slotting home after being slipped through by Jacob Ramsey.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side responded positively, but lacked the cutting edge in the final third, registering just one genuine attempt in the first half.
Osula extinguished their hopes of staging a comeback in the 65th minute, before Valentin Castellanos scored the consolation goal for West Ham.

Chelsea have missed out on Champions League qualification, but could still qualify for the Europa League, which could give them encouragement ahead of the fixture.
They have lost just once at home to Tottenham in the Premier League, winning 21 and drawing 11 of their previous meetings.
West Ham will be hoping that Chelsea are motivated to continue their impressive record against Spurs, potentially helping their survival bid.
That said, the Hammers must win their final league fixture against Leeds United, while hoping Tottenham slip up against Everton.
On paper, West Ham have the more favourable fixture. Leeds have little to play for, having already secured their top-flight status, while Everton are pushing for European qualification.
The Hammers have also fared better at home this season than Tottenham, a factor that could prove decisive in the race between the two to survive relegation.
