‘Need to get rid’ – Wayne Rooney tells Chelsea to ditch new signing
Chelsea’s transfer strategy under BlueCo has been the subject of much criticism for a long time now.
The Blues have prioritised youth and potential over proven ability and it’s cost them too many points.
While they have undoubtedly assembled one of the most talented young squads in Europe, there is also a growing feeling that too many decisions are still being made without enough balance or logic.
And recent comments from Wayne Rooney, particularly about Alejandro Garnacho, have summed up exactly why so many supporters have been unhappy.

Garnacho remains one of the most naturally gifted young attackers in the Premier League, but despite only arriving from Manchester United last summer, there are already questions surrounding where exactly he fits in.
And Rooney, who spoke on his BBC podcast, is clearly unconvinced by Chelsea’s decision to sign him.
“I think Chelsea will have to sell some players because they’ve got a big squad and have made some very strange signings.Selling (Noni) Madueke to Arsenal and signing (Jamie) Gittens, I just didn’t get that, I didn’t understand it. I never got the signing of (Alejandro) Garnacho, so there’s been some very strange signings.
There’s players there they need to get rid of to get some more experience in and help the young players.”
Garnacho’s switch from Old Trafford last year cost the Blues £40 million and saw the Argentine pen a seven-year deal.
Xabi Alonso must decide Garnacho’s future immediately
After it was confirmed Xabi Alonso will be the new Chelsea manager following BlueCo’s decision to sack Liam Rosenior after just 104 days in charge, the Spaniard will arrive in West London with plenty to do.
One of the first things on Alonso’s agenda will be to decide which players still have a future at Stamford Bridge, and Garnacho is one of the players who could be axed.
The 21-year-old has been a fringe player during the second half of the season, and his past falling out with Ruben Amorim, which led to his United exit, suggests he will not tolerate being a bench player for too long.
The Chelsea winger has been linked with a loan to River Plate in recent weeks but it remains to be seen just how serious the South American club are, or how Garnacho would feel about leaving Europe for a year.
