Xabi Alonso is going to have a big say on transfers at Chelsea in a development supporters will welcome.
Chelsea fans have not been happy with some of the recent signings that the club have made under their sporting directors.
Alonso has been handed the title “manager” instead of head coach, and it is thought that the Spaniard will have to sign off on new recruits and will not be forced to accept any players he does not want.

Chelsea fans want to see Xabi Alonso sign a new goalkeeper and centre-back
Here on TalkingPoints, Chelsea supporters have been discussing which positions they would like to see Alonso strengthen.
Understandably, many would like to see the arrival of a new goalkeeper and centre-back, while there is a feeling that the attack could also do with some revamping.
One Chelsea supporter said the team need “two proper defenders”, suggesting that the club should go out and buy a couple of centre-halves.
Another Chelsea fan said: “Centre-back and figure out the goalkeeper. I reckon we bring in one of Stones/Ake/Rudiger.”
One TalkingPoints user posted: “Experienced CB (Stopper play style.) x2. No more BPD CB (ball-playing centre-back).”
And another wrote: “Central defender, creative midfielder and top attackers.” Clearly, they feel strengthening the backline will not be enough.
Both Robert Sanchez and Filipe Jorgensen have made mistakes in goal this season, and bar Trevoh Chalobah, Chelsea’s centre-halves have been inconsistent, injured or both.
The arrival of a new goalkeeper seems very possible, with it being reported that Chelsea have a six-man shortlist of shot-stoppers heading into the summer.
What Xabi Alonso’s No.1 priority should be
If Chelsea want to challenge for the Premier League title again, they really do need a more reliable goalkeeper.
Sanchez is a fantastic shot-stopper, but when the Spaniard gets his distribution wrong or flaps at a corner, Chelsea are often punished.
With that in mind, they could probably do with a new No.1, but their need for a powerful and dominant centre-half cannot be overlooked either.
If Chelsea can address those two areas successfully this summer, they could be in for a much brighter campaign next year.
