Mike Maignan is back on the Chelsea transfer table. The Blues are seeking again for the keeper from AC Milan. He was almost recruited last year. However, the transfer deal didn’t go as per expectations.

Chelsea are eager to bring Mike Maignan on board. As per Chelsea Newsthe club from Stamford Bridge has resumed talks with AC Milan. Initially, the Frenchman signed a contract renewal till 2031 with the Italian club. However, he could reconsider his options, including the Chelsea transfer.

Maignan was almost signed up by the Blues in 2025. However, the deal couldn’t materialize. This left many fans disappointed. However, the club is ready to bring the goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge again.

The 30-year-old Frenchman is considered to be one of the world’s best goalkeepers. He was a part of the French team at the UEFA Euro 2024. Maignan helped Les Bleus to enter the semifinals. France lost to eventual champions Spain. The French keeper will also represent France at the FIFA World Cup this year. He had missed out on the previous edition due to a calf injury.

Why is Maignan’s Entry Necessary for Chelsea?

Chelsea needs a complete revamp. Mike Maignan’s entry will be a good start in this direction. The West London club experienced a rough patch this season. The lone solace was the victory at the 2025 Club World Cup. Chelsea are currently placed ninth in the Premier League this season. They lost the FA Cup final to Manchester City on May 16. The final was held at Wembley Stadium in London.

The club saw multiple changes in the management since 2025. The previous manager, Liam Rosenior was shown the door less than six months after recruitment. According to Football Londonformer Spanish legend Xabi Alonso is the new Blues’ manager. Calum McFarlane is currently the interim manager.

That’s why Maignan’s Chelsea transfer is on the priority list of the West London club. Maignan initially joined Paris Saint Germain’s youth side in 2009. He later represented Lille between 2015 and 2021. Subsequently, the 30-year-old joined AC Milan. He performed well for the Italian side in Serie A last year.

Can Maignan bring back Chelsea to winning ways? The answer is both a yes and a no. The French goalie has been one of the best performers this season. He recorded 13 clean sheets in Serie A last year.

However, the Chelsea transfer is a different matter. The football club from Stamford Bridge experienced a roller-coaster ride in the past few years. In 2024-25, the club won the UEFA Conference League. The Blues secured the ticket to the FIFA Club World Cup. They also finished fourth at the Premier League.

However, the situation reversed next year. Apart from struggling the Premier League, the Blues also had a tough time in the Champions League. If not for the Club World Cup win, the Blues had a forgettable 2025-26 season. This is why managers Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior were forced to leave the club.

As such, Chelsea would like to get back to winning ways soon. The management is already working on a better side by next season. The club has retained Joao Pedro.
