It was put to a frustrated-looking Nuno that fans will be worried that players such as Bowen would need to be sold.

In reply, Nuno said: “Look, like I said, I understand. We have to be ready for it all. Many things will be coming out in the press tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and after. Speculation, about all of us, about our future.

“But today is not the day to think about that. I tell you because I already told the players, we have to talk and we’re going to solve it together.

“We’re going to speak about it. Anyone today who has a need to speak with me, I will be there for him. But I tell you, we have time to make decisions. It’s not today to make any kind of rush decisions.”

Bowen’s immediate reaction to West Ham’s relegation was interesting. He talked about wanting to lead the club back into the Premier League as quickly as possible, which hardly suggests he’s looking to leave right away.

Staying and leading the club back to the Premier League would only cement the forward’s legacy at the club but quite how realistic that is remains to be seen.

Jarrod Bowen latest transfer news

Chelsea are interested in signing Bowen, who has also been linked with the likes of Newcastle, Manchester United and Everton.

It is not hard to imagine the former Hull forward being in demand when the transfer window does open.

That finish against Leeds on Sunday was a reminder of his quality, even if his form had dipped in the second half of the campaign.

Bowen is clearly already a legend at West Ham and, in truth, that would not change if he were to leave this summer.

Keeping him, however, would be an almighty coup ahead of an arduous Championship campaign.
