Former Wolves boss emerges as contender to replace Nuno at West Ham alongside Scott Parker

West Ham shortlist Gary O’Neil and Scott Parker as Nuno expected to leave

Scott Parker has been tipped to replace Nuno Espirito Santo at West Ham ever since Burnley sacked him in March.

Parker is considered a Championship specialist, having earned promotion with Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley.

He also made over 100 Premier League appearances for West Ham and is well-liked by the club’s supporters.

However, Parker is not a shoo-in for the managerial position at the London Stadium, as there is at least one other contender.

Journalist Jacob Steinberg has reported that Strasbourg boss Gary O’Neil is a “potential candidate to replace Nuno”.

O’Neil has spent the last five months at Strasbourg after replacing Liam Rosenior following his move to Chelsea.

Relegation confirmed – where do West Ham go from here?

The French club finished in eighth place in Ligue 1, narrowly missing out on European qualification by one point.

O’Neil has previously managed both Bournemouth and Wolves in the Premier League.

Many thought he was unfortunate to be sacked by Bournemouth after finishing 15th in his first and only season.

Meanwhile, O’Neil’s struggles at Wolves stemmed from losing several key players, such as Matheus Nunes and Ruben Neves.

Although his coaching career has been inconsistent, West Ham would struggle to find a better appointment in the Championship.

O’Neil also spent two seasons playing at Upton Park (2011-2013), so he has existing knowledge of the club.
