But, speaking to talkSPORT, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan cannot help but compare Parker’s superb track record in the Championship with his dismal returns as a Premier League coach.

If the former England, Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder did win the second division title with the Hammers, could he be trusted to preside over a top-flight campaign the following season?

“It’s about what is the better alternative,” Jordan said when asked about Nuno’s impending departure. “It’s very easy to sit and go; ‘Well, you know what, he deserved to be sacked’. What are you going to replace him with?

“If you’re going to replace him with someone like Scott Parker, maybe because it’s playing to the gallery. He’s a Championship manager that can get you promoted to the Premier League. Then, what are you going to do with him?

“What are you going to do with him in a year’s time, because you’re going to have him just to get promoted, right?”

Jordan reviews Nuno Espirito Santo after Hammers relegation

Hammers News can confirm that Nuno’s exit could be officially announced this week.

That ‘pitiful’ defeat at Newcastle on matchday 37 all-but sealed their fate, but Jordan also looks back at a dull 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in April amongst a series of missed opportunities.

“I look at Espirito Santo, and my mind’s eye tells you that he’s a decent manager,” Jordan muses. “But the fact is, he got 33 points (sic 36), and that wasn’t good.

“You look at the run-rate of his performances, and it’s not good enough, really.

“So there’s a balance between, is (Nuno) a good manager? I think he’s a good manager. I think he’s proven to be a good manager. In this instance, I think the problems were deeper, and he didn’t get to grips with them fast enough, and I think that’s on him.

“I think there were two games that defined their season.

“I remember them going away to Palace when they were in good nick, and they settled for a 0-0 draw. And I thought at the time that might come back and bite them, because Palace were not in good form at that particular time. Palace were there to be beaten, and they didn’t take the opportunity.

“And the dreadful performance they put in last week against Newcastle cemented (their relegation).”
