Enzo Fernandez is one of several Chelsea stars who could be sold this summer, with the Blues set for a huge transfer window following another disappointing campaign under their BlueCo ownership.
The Argentina international flirted with the idea of joining Real Madrid during the recent March international break and it has been widely reported that he is keen to explore his options this summer.
Chelsea are also open to a sale if they receive a suitable offer, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain both expected to battle for Fernandez’s signature when the window opens.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have also joined the race to sign Fernandez, as per The Athleticwith the club eager to sign a new central midfielder following confirmation that Bernardo Silva will depart the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.
Fernandez has been earmarked as an alternative to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, but how would he fit in at Man City if a transfer is agreed?
How Manchester City would line up with Enzo Fernandez
Man City are spoilt for choice in the goalkeeper position, with Gianluigi Donnarumma currently Pep Guardiola’s preferred option and James Trafford limited to appearances in cup competitions, despite his obvious talent. That is likely to continue next season, although the latter has been heavily linked with an exit.
Despite the absences of Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias through injury, Guardiola has settled in a superb back four in recent weeks and Matheus Nunes, Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly are likely to retain their places next season, even when Gvardiol and Dias return to full fitness.
In midfield, Rodri will remain in the deepest position, if he snubs interest from Real Madrid in favour of staying at Man City, while Rayan Cherki will provide flair and creativity in a more advanced role. Fernandez would therefore compete with Tijjani Reijnders to take Bernardo’s place in the starting XI and it’s a battle he would likely win if Man City match Chelsea’s asking price of over €100 million.
In attack, the front three of Antoine Semenyo, Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku are expected to continue together following several months of eye-catching form.
The likes of Phil Foden, Savinho and Omar Marmoush will likely be forced to accept rotation roles due to the alternative options at Man City’s disposal.
