2026 Community Shield to take place in Cardiff | News

Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, we will next be in competitive action when we take on Manchester City in the 2026 FA Community Shield on Sunday, August 16.

English football’s traditional curtain raiser will see us, the Premier League champions, face the FA Cup winners, who will be under new management after Pep Guardiola departed as manager last month.

Unlike in previous seasons though, this year’s game will take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium for the first time since 2006 when Wembley was under construction. However, due to concerts having been booked at the national stadium, this year the Shield will be contested in Wales instead.

The game will be a 3pm kick-off, and broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports and HBO Max.

We have won the trophy on 17 previous occasions, one of which was shared with Tottenham Hotspur after a draw in 1991. Our last triumph came in 2023 when a late Leandro Trossard equaliser ensured our game with Manchester City finished 1-1, and we went on to win 4-1 on penalties.

We played 10 times at the Principality Stadium when it filled in for Wembley between 2001 and 2007, winning five times. We contested for the Community Shield four times in that period, winning in 2002 and 2004. Our last game at the Principality Stadium was back in February 2007 when we faced Chelsea in the League Cup final.
