Fabrizio Romano shares Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea update

Earlier, Fabrizio Romano had rubbished the misconception that Andoni Iraola would not be open to the Chelsea job. On the contrary, the Italian journalist suggested that the Spanish manager would be keen on it and more than happy to continue in the Premier League. It has already been announced that he is leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season.

Many had put two and two together and concluded that he was on his way back to Athletic Bilbao, where he is considered a legend from his playing days. But Edin Terzic is set to land that job. Could Chelsea make their move for the Spaniard?

Iraola is not the only Spanish manager seemingly on Chelsea’s radar. Another is Cesc Fabregas, one of the club’s former players.

Fabregas has done brilliantly so far at Como. This weekend’s win meant that they are now three points behind fourth-placed Juventus in the Serie A table. So, Champions League qualification is still within reach, something we cannot say about Chelsea anymore. Unsurprisingly, the Spaniard has caught the eye of a lot of fans as a potential candidate. But would he be open to a return to Stamford Bridge?

Would Cesc Fabregas be open to Chelsea return?

Romano has given an update on the situation involving Chelsea and Fabregas as well. The Italian journalist stated that the Spaniard is expected to continue on as Como manager.

That being said, he did not rule out the possibility of a move to Chelsea, if the Blues made their move for Fabregas. Romano said on his YouTube channel:

Cesc Fabregas is already planning next season with Como in terms of new signings, tactics, ideas. So for sure Cesc is 100% involved in the Como project.

Then guys, we have to see if Chelsea decide to try go all-in for Fabregas. We will see what’s going to happen there but at the moment my understanding is that Como are convinced they will continue with Cesc Fabregas. Como feeling is that Cesc will be their manager next season and they hope to be in European football with Cesc Fabregas as a coach. But at the moment still depending also on what happens at Chelsea because, as of now Chelsea are yet to decide who is going to be the new coach, are yet to attack and go for the coach they want. They are considering candidates, they are exploring possibilities, but this process will take some time.

Iraola or Fabregas, who would be better for Chelsea’s current squad?

In my personal opinion, Fabregas might be a better fit for Chelsea right now. The Spaniard plays a possession-based style of football. We have seen this squad do well under Enzo Maresca with the same philosophy.

Also, Fabregas knows what it takes to succeed at the top level. He has won league titles with Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona. He won the World Cup and EURO titles with Spain. That is the type of experience that you can’t teach.

As for Iraola, there are concerns about how his style would fit at Chelsea, or any other top club for that matter. He plays a high-intensity system based on heavy pressing and hard work. Is the current Blues squad cut out for that?

Also, let’s not overlook the shortcomings of Iraola’s system. The 7th-placed Bournemouth have conceded 52 league goals this season. Only the bottom four clubs in the Premier League have given away more. Will that ever translate to winning football at a top club?
