Manchester United have agreed a £50million deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos, with the 22-year-old now set to undergo a medical

Manchester United have reached an agreement to bring in Chelsea star Andrey Santos in a deal worth £50million as Michael Carrick prepares to rubber-stamp his first official acquisition.

Mirror Football understands that Santos is poised to complete a permanent switch to Old Trafford after negotiations between United and Chelsea progressed over the past 48 hours. United have committed to paying an initial £48m fee, with an additional £2m payable in add-ons.

Personal terms between United and the player have already been finalised. As part of the arrangement, a 10 per cent sell-on clause has been included in the deal, meaning Chelsea will receive a portion of any subsequent transfer.

However, it appears Carrick will secure his man to form an all-Brazilian midfield partnership with Ederson, with the 26-year-old set to arrive from Atalanta following the conclusion of the World Cup.

Whether his potential arrival will bring an end to United’s rumoured pursuit of Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni remains unclear.

Santos has been given the green light to travel to Manchester to undergo a medical and is now on the verge of completing his switch to Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old, the first player signed during Todd Boehly’s tenure at Stamford Bridge, appears set to occupy the gap left by Casemiro following the expiry of his contract on June 30.

The Brazilian midfielder served as a rotation choice for both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior last term, featuring 42 times for Chelsea.

That marked his first complete campaign in England following inconsistent loan stints with Nottingham Forest and RC Strasbourg.

Santos was named in Carlo Ancelotti’s preliminary 55-man World Cup squad for Brazil in June. Yet he was cut as the roster was reduced to 26 players, though Ederson was summoned as an emergency replacement after Wesley’s injury just days before the tournament.

He has been afforded rest ahead of pre-season starting, which will hand Carrick a lift as he looks to finalise another signing before their friendly matches in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Ireland.
