Manchester United agree deal to sign Chelsea star who missed out on FIFA World Cup spot

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of Andrey Santos, who missed out on the FIFA World Cup, as per reports. The Red Devils appear set to land the young midfielder, who featured regularly for the Blues in the 2025-26 season.

David Ornstein reports that Chelsea have agreed to sell Santos to Manchester United for a fee that will reach £50 million this summer. The midfielder has agreed on personal terms with the Red Devils and will join them imminently, pending the completion of a medical.

Manchester United have opted to sign the Brazil international as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of a return to the UEFA Champions League. With Casemiro gone and Manuel Ugarte facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, they have been left light in the middle of the park, resulting in their need for reinforcement.

Chelsea signed Santos as an 18-year-old from Brazilian outfit Vasco da Gama and had him spend time on loan at Nottingham Forest and Strasbourg, where he developed into one of Europe’s finest young midfielders. He played for the Blues for the first time at the FIFA Club World Cup last summer and was integrated into their first-team squad for the 2025-26 season.

Despite making 47 appearances across all competitions for the Blues, the 22-year-old was left out of Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He has played six times for his country, including appearances in the final round of friendlies before the FIFA World Cup squad was announced.

Chelsea will receive £48 million guaranteed for the midfielder, with a further £2 million set to come as easy add-ons. They will retain a 10% sell-on clause in the deal, and he will sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

Chelsea have officially announced the addition of teenage winger Geovany Quenda to their squad after a move from Sporting Club. The 19-year-old winger was originally signed last March but remained with the Portuguese club, sharpening his talents ahead of the move.

Quenda was a target for Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, having played under the coach at Sporting. The Blues forked out around £44 million to sign the youngster when he was only 18 years old.

Geovany Quenda was not part of Portugal’s FIFA World Cup squad this summer due to a serious injury that kept him out for much of the 2025-26 season. He will commence preseason under Xabi Alonso, and is tipped to have a bright future at Stamford Bridge.
