Chelsea are highly interested in Werder Bremen defender, Karim Coulibaly. The young German centre back is one of the hottest prospects in European football. The 19-year-old has become one of the most important transfer targets of several big clubs. Coulibaly may leave Bundesliga this summer as clubs including Chelsea are in the race.

As reported by Yahoo Sports, Chelsea like Karim Coulibaly very much. They see him as an investment for the future. As a result, without wasting any time they have started to conduct negotiations with the player’s camp. The Blues maintain their transfer policy of bringing young talents and develop them at the club. They consider those players for the long term future. Chelsea management have realized the need of bringing experienced players. But they do not want to let a talent like the German defender go away.

Coulibaly is valued between €40m-€50m by German side, Werder Bremen. This price is quite reasonable for the London club to bring him to the Stamford Bridge. New coach Xabi Alonso aims to set up a completely new backline to implement his own ideas in the upcoming season. The Spanish coach wants the club to improve the squad depth and enhance quality in defense.

The 19-year-old will suit very well in Alonso’s system. He has proved himself in a possession-based football team and has the potential to shine. Last season in Bundesliga, he has delivered on several occasions for Werder Bremen. Coulibaly has been calm and composed and strong in the air. He could develop into a fantastic modern day defender with his fabulous ball playing ability from the back.
