Chelsea are set to offload Andrey Santos to Manchester United in a deal worth up to £50m, according to multiple reports.

The Blues are set to receive £48m upfront, with another £2m in performance-related add-ons.

Supporters on X are very much split on Santos’s move to Old Trafford, with some believing that the club are losing a very promising player, while others feel he is overrated:

Why didn’t Chelsea sell Lavia or Essugo instead?

Some fans have pointed out that Santos has performed to a much higher standard than either Romeo Lavia or Dario Essugo over the past twelve months.

However, it is believed their departures were deemed unrealistic due to the fact that both of them have struggled to stay fit.

Out of the three, Santos was the one who would bring in the most money, and there are also suggestions that he wanted to leave, as he didn’t want to be Moises Caicedo’s understudy.

Who could be signed to replace Santos?

With a deal for Sunderland’s Granit Xhaka now dead in the waterit is believed that the London club are weighing up a potential move for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, but there are doubts over whether the Cherries are willing to sell the 22-year-old. Arsenal reportedly made an enquiry last week, and they were told in no uncertain terms that the player was not for sale.

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is also a long-term target. The midfielder is a very different type of player to Santos, and he would not be brought in to provide competition for Caicedo. However, the costs involved may put them off from making an offer. It has been claimed that Palace may want as much as £100m.
