Chelsea complete Jesse Derry deal

Chelsea have confirmed that highly rated Academy forward Jesse Derry has signed a new long-term contract with the club, committing his future to the Blues until 2032.

The agreement represents another significant boost for CHELSEA‘s long-term planning, with the club securing one of its brightest homegrown prospects on fresh terms. Derry, who has continued to impress throughout the Academy ranks, admitted the decision to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge was an easy one

‘It’s a dream come true to commit my future to such a big club like Chelsea,’ Derry said after signing his deal. ‘I’m just so excited for what’s to come.

‘This last 12 months, I feel like a completely different player than when I first joined and that’s credit to all the coaches I’ve worked with. They’ve played such a big part in helping me get better.

‘Just having that little snippet of playing for the first team last season, I couldn’t have thought of anywhere else I’d want to be for my future. It was a no-brainer.’

Derry has earned widespread praise during his time at Cobham for his goalscoring instincts, technical quality and intelligent movement across the front line. Comfortable playing as a centre-forward or drifting into wide attacking areas, the youngster has established himself as one of the standout performers in Chelsea’s youth system.

His ability to find space inside the penalty area, combined with composed finishing and sharp decision-making, has made him a consistent attacking threat.

Equally important is his work ethic without the ball, as Derry regularly leads the press and contributes defensively, qualities that align closely with the high-intensity style Alonso expects from his forwards.

CHELSEA coaches have also highlighted Derry’s football intelligence and versatility. He is capable of linking play between midfield and attack, creating opportunities for teammates while remaining a constant goal threat himself.

His technical security in possession and willingness to combine in tight spaces make him well suited to the possession-based approach favoured by Alonso.
