Chelsea are set to table a fresh offer for Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the 28-year-old could well be the Blues’ next addition during the summer transfer window:

“Pep Chavarria is ready to go to Chelsea, has an agreement on personal terms – the left-back from Rayo Vallecano – and Chelsea, from what I understand, are ready to send a new official bid in the next days.”

“So, Chelsea will return to the table with a new proposal for Chavarria and could be the next signing for Chelsea, in terms of full-backs after Marco Palestra on the right.”

Chelsea have faced resistance from Chavarria’s club

Reports in Spain have claimed that Rayo Vallecano president Martin Presa threatened to contact FIFA as he was unhappy with the way the London club have gone about their pursuit of the defender.

An opening bid for Chavarria is believed to have been rejected, but it appears Xabi Alonso’s side are now confident they will get their man with a follow-up proposal, despite the difficulties they have faced in talks.

Chavarria would be the club’s 6th summer signing

The Blues agreed deals for Strasbourg’s Emmanuel Emegha, Sporting Lisbon’s Geovany Quenda, Corinthians’ Denner and Kairat Almaty’s Dastan Satpaev before the start of the transfer window, but they only officially made the switch to Stamford Bridge this month.

For that reason, Marco Palestra is the only one of the five that Alonso has had a hand in recruiting. Chavaria would be the Spaniard’s second addition, but the club’s sixth overall this summer.

He is likely to be a backup option at left wingback, with Quenda more than likely going to be handed the starting berth, but we shall have to wait and see how Alonso sets up his team in pre-season.
