Arsenal ‘Increasingly Confident’ They Will Clinch Club Record Transfer Following Major Breakthrough

Arsenal have made “significant” progress in agreeing personal terms with Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim that the Gunners have been in discussions with the England international’s representatives ahead of making a bid for the player, and they are now “increasingly confident” that the move will go ahead.

Once the Premier League champions have reached a full agreement with Rogers, it is believed they will proceed with a formal approach.

Villa are, of course, unlikely to let the 23-year-old leave without a fight, and there is every chance that Mikel Arteta’s side will have to break their transfer record.

How much will Rogers cost to sign?

It has been suggested that Villa will hold out for a British record fee, which currently stands at £130m.

They could lower their demands slightly, but Arsenal would still need to pay more than the £105m they shelled out on Declan Rice three years ago, which is the highest amount they have paid for a player.

It is believed that Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool have also considered making moves for Rogersbut he has seemingly prioritised a transfer to the Emirates.

That should help the Gunners in negotiations. There is no chance for Villa to trigger a bidding war by encouraging others to get involved, as the player has his heart set on a move to North London.

The Midlands club will still not makes things easy. He signed a new five and a half year contract back in November last year, so they are in a pretty strong negotiating position at the moment.

It is unlikely that an offer will be tabled before the forward returns from the World Cup with England, and even then, it looks like talks could be long and protracted.
