Reports from Catalan outlet El Nacional state that the Blues have bypassed the usual back-channel tapping-up and lodged a formal €80 million bid with Real Madrid for Eduardo Camavinga. Looking at the raw data from his 2025/26 campaign, you might wonder why Alonso is so obsessed. The numbers are frankly ordinary. 29 La Liga appearances yielded just a single solitary goal, scored against Athletic Club back in December. Zero assists. He averaged a .7.04 FotMob rating, which is tidy but hardly spectacular. Out of those 29 league games, he only made the starting eleven 16 times. In Europe, he chipped in with one goal and an assist in 11 matches. It was a stop-start year. A plateau.

Alonso does not care about the dry statistics. He is looking at the raw attributes. Camavinga offers a terrifying combination of hyper-aggressive pressing and the physical strength to carry a team through chaotic transitions. He can anchor the midfield, play as a box-to-box engine, or fill in at left-back without breaking a sweat. It is exactly the sort of tactical flexibility Chelsea lacked during their recent tactical identity crisis. Whether the Blues hierarchy can actually convince the player to board a flight to London is another matter entirely.
