Xabi Alonso handed £126m for Chelsea transfer spree after triple deal secured

Chelsea have been busy in the summer transfer window so far but the Blues have been more focused on outgoings rather than incomings at the time of writing

Andrey Santos’ £50million move to Manchester United is all but official, with the Chelsea midfielder set to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

United reached an agreement with the Blues – a £50m package, with a £48m up-front fee and £2m in further add-ons – on Wednesday afternoon for the Brazil international to move on from Stamford Bridge after requesting to leave. Santos is set to become the third sale of Chelsea’s summer so far – in a transfer window that has been dominated by outgoings rather than incomings in west London.

Once the Santos deal is official, the Blues will have generated around £126m – all in all – for the sales of the Brazilian, as well as his former colleagues Tyrique George and Marc Cucurella.

George has moved to Everton on a permanent basis after spending the second half of last season on loan at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Chelsea have received £18m up front from the Toffees, who could be forced to hand over another £6m in potential add-ons if certain clauses are met during the Cobham graduate’s time on Merseyside.

Cucurella, meanwhile, is now a Real Madrid player after Chelsea agreed a €55m (£47.4m fixed) plus €5m (£4.3m) deal with Los Blancos for the Spain international. He departed Stamford Bridge after almost four years, but Chelsea are continuing their efforts to bring Pep Charvarria to the club to add more depth in the left-back department.

Direct talks with Rayo Vallecano have been happening behind the scenes for a while but no agreement has been reached yet for the Spanish defender. There have been murmurs of Rayo feeling Chelsea are undervaluing Chavarria but the two clubs are looking to reach some sort of middle ground in the near future.

Elsewhere, Chelsea remain interested in Maxence Lacroix. However, the Blues have needed to be patient for this one with Crystal Palace looking to sign a centre back or two before allowing the France international to depart. This one, sources say, is likely to advance more when the aforementioned happens.

The west Londoners are considering their options in the centre midfield market as well after missing out on Granit Xhaka.
