Chelsea submit offer for 37-goal star – Blues attempt for surprise signing
Al-Qadsiah star Julián Quiñones has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Chelsea.
The Colombia-born Mexico international’s fine displays for club and country have seen Chelsea take interest.
He joined the Saudi Arabian club from Club América for a reported $16m (€14m) in June 2024. The striker has scored 62 goals and contributed 12 assists from 68 matches, of which 37 goals and four assists were from last season.
Quiñones also starred for the national team at the World Cup, managing four goals and an assist.
Chelsea’s surprise attempt for signing
The Premier League side have decided to bet on the 29-year-old. That’s according to Al-Awsat, who cover their surprise efforts to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Sources have informed Al-Awast the Blues have made an offer to take Julián Quiñones away from Al-Qadsiah.
Chelsea have taken this step, after the Mexican starred in the league and for his country. There’s no mention of the fee submitted by Xabi Alonso’s side.
Last season, the frontman was the Saudi Pro League’s top scorer with 33 goals, ahead of Al-Ahli’s Ivan Toney (32 goals) and Al-Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo (28 goals).
Why transfer complicated for Chelsea
Al-Qadsiah have anticipated potential approaches for the player this summer and have already taken action.
On May 25th, the Middle East club tied down Julián Quiñones to a new contract until 2029. This would put them in a comfortable position to hold on to him.
Al-Awsat sates the Middle Eastern club consider the Mexican as a key part of their project. Therefore, Al-Qadsiah’s leaders want to retain him and are refusing to sanction a move.
There’s no clarity on the attacker’s stance on a surprise move from Chelsea. If he were to push for a move, then the Blues may have a chance of securing his services.
Quiñones isn’t the only striker on linked to Chelsea. Last month, there were claims of their interest in Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen and Juventus’ Dušan Vlahović.
João Pedro was leading the English club’s attack, with Liam Delap and Marc Guiu as his backup. Nicolas Jackson and David Datro Fofana have returned from their loan spells while Emmanuel Emegha will also arrived in London.
Chelsea are likely to allow multiple strikers to leave this summer. This is also needed if they wish to sign a new No.9.
