Chelsea ready to sell star player for €50 million as Xabi Alonso makes decision

Chelsea are reportedly looking to sell attacker Alejandro Garnacho for €50 million. The Argentine arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer from Manchester United but could be on his way out after just one season.

Garnacho, 22, scored eight times and provided four assists in 43 games across competitions for last season. One of those strikes came in the Premier League, where the Blues finished a lowly 10th to miss out on European football for the upcoming campaign.

Despite being contracted to Stamford Bridge till 2032, the Argentina international hasn’t yet reported for training despite not being involved with the Albiceleste at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

As per GiveMeSport senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, Xabi Alonso’s side are looking for Garnacho’s permanent exit, while AS Roma are only interested in a loan deal. The attacker wants to be a regular starter, but the Blues can’t guarantee him that, with both parties working for a solution and a possible in the next two weeks amid interest from England, Italy and Saudi Arabia.

Garnacho scored four times in as many games in the EFL Cup last campaign, with the Blues lost 4-2 on aggregate to Arsenal in the semi-finals.

Reece James and Trevor Chalobah’s England are in quarter-final action tonight (July 11) against Norway in the third quarter-final in Miami. Enzo Fernandez’ Argentina – the holders – take on Switzerland in the fourth quarter-final later in the day in Kansas City.

Malo Gusto’s France are already in the semi-final, having beaten African champions Morocco in the first semi-final on Thursday, at Boston Stadium, Foxborough. Meanwhile, Marc Cucurella (now a Real Madrid player)’s Spain also reached the last four after a 2-1 win over Belgium a day later, at Los Angeles Stadium, Inglewood.
