Chelsea Increase ‘Offer’ By £8.5M With Blues Already Having ‘Total Agreement’ With Player

Chelsea are “about to present a new offer” for Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria, according to reports in the Spanish media.

Mark claim that the Blues already have a “total agreement” with the Spaniard on personal terms, who is even prepared to reduce his salary to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.

The new proposal is expected to be worth up to €25m (£21.3m), including performance-related bonuses.

It is believed to be a €10m (£8.5m) increase on the €15m (£12.8m) bid that has been rejected by Rayo Vallecano.

Alonso has chosen Chavarria to replace Cucurella

Marc Cucurella’s departure for Real Madrid left a gaping hole on Chelsea’s left wing. Jorrel Hato provided cover for the Spanish international last season, but he won’t be able to play wingback if manager Xabi Alonso opts to deploy his favoured 3-4-3 system.

Chavarria is also usually deployed in a back four, but he does have some experience of playing as a left wingback, so he could provide the necessary cover.

It is up for debate whether the 28-year-old should be a regular starter due to his lack of pedigree, but Alonso has reportedly requested his signature, with Chelsea’s recruitment team acceding to his demands.

Could Chelsea pursue another left wingback?

A different report from Spain suggests that Alonso has also asked for the Blues to make a move for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Carreras. The 23-year-old only made the switch to the Bernabeu from Benfica last summer for €50m.

However, the arrival of Cucurella will push him down the pecking order. He is rated highly by Alonso, who worked with him for six months during his brief stint as Real’s head coach last season.

It remains to be seen whether both Carreras and Chavarria would be signed, though. Alonso may be content with recruiting the latter and using Geovany Quenda as his first-choice option.
