Man Utd have completed the signing of midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea and he could be in line to make his first appearance for the club this weekend.

New signing Andrey Santos trained with his Manchester United teammates for the first time on Monday, and if all goes according to plan, he could feature in this weekend’s friendly against Wrexham.

United completed a £50million deal to sign Santos from Chelsea on Monday, with the 22-year-old penning a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option of a further year.

Having not been involved in international duty this summer, the six-cap Brazil international has been able to link up with United for pre-season training immediately and is already getting to work at Carrington.

Santos is now in line to be part of the squad that travels to Helsinki this weekend for the opening pre-season friendly of the summer against Championship outfit Wrexham. Santos and fellow former Chelsea man Mason Mount are the only senior midfielders currently available to Michael Carrick.

The former Vasco da Gama youngster joined Chelsea at the age of 18 but struggled to break into the first team. Despite that, director of football Jason Wilcox is confident United have signed a player who will be the perfect fit at Old Trafford.

“Andrey is an outstanding midfielder with excellent technical qualities and the ability to impact the game at both ends of the pitch,” said Wilcox.

“He was a key target for us in an important position, so we are delighted that he will join Michael’s squad so early in pre-season.

“Despite already having extensive experience, leadership abilities and proving his talent at the highest level, Andrey still has enormous potential to develop further, and we cannot wait to see him flourish at Manchester United.”
