Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has set his goals for the upcoming season. The Argentina player opened up about his future plan after the World Cup win against Egypt.

Fernandez reveals his plans for the next season

As reported by Football London, the 25-year-old midfielder opened up about his plans for the upcoming season. After the pre-quarterfinal match against Egypt, Fernandez was asked if he intends to move out of Chelsea this year. He replied, “I’m not thinking about my future right now.”

Fernandez added that he is currently living in the moment at the 2026 World Cup. He wouldn’t like to spoil it by worrying for the future. Although Fernandez mentioned in a previous interview that he would make a move to Real Madrid, he hasn’t officially confirmed his decision.

The Argentinian midfielder scored the winning goal in the 93rd minute against Egypt. Argentina further won against Switzerland in the quarterfinals to enter the semifinal for the second consecutive time since the 2022 edition.

Fernandez’s stats for the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:

Competitions Matches Goals Assists
Premier League 36 10 4
FA Cup 4 2 1
EFL Cup 4 0 0
UEFA Champions League 10 3 2

Fernandez’s contribution to Chelsea till now

Fernandez has been a great asset to the Blues ever since he joined the club in 2023. He was signed by the West London club from Benfica for a record transfer fee of €121 million. He previously played for Benfica between 2022 and 2023. Before that, he played for River Plate between 2019 and 2022.

Fernandez played an important role in many victories for the Chelsea team. He even led the team on several occasions. In August 2024, he captained the team for the first time in a Premier League match against the Manchester City. Although Chelsea lost that match, Fernandez gained some valuable experience.

Fernandez played very well for Chelsea last year. However, the midfielder wants more. That is the main reason why the Argentinian is reconsidering his options. It would be interesting to see if the Blues manage to retain him for the next season.

Future gameplan for Enzo Fernandez

Currently, Fernandez is aiming for a second consecutive World Cup title. He was a part of the World Cup winning team in the 2022 edition. Argentina won the World Cup title after 36 years, defeating France 4-2 on penalties. Interestingly, since the 1962 edition, no football team has managed to defend the World Cup title. Argentina would like to rewrite this trend as the perfect tribute to Lionel Messi, who may retire from international football after this edition.

However, after the World CupFernandez needs to work on his fitness concerns. He sustained multiple injuries in the 2025-26 season. In April 2026, he sustained a calf injury. Thankfully, he recovered in time. Apart from that, he also needs to work on his disciplinary issues. The Chelsea skipper was handed 10 yellow cards in the Premier League last year.

Fernandez worked wonders for Chelsea in the past few years. Undoubtedly, the West London club will leave no stone unturned to retain him. However, if he decides to move out, Chelsea will like nothing less than £120 million for the midfielder (approximately €140.6 million). Apart from Real Madrid, even Manchester City has expressed their interest in Fernandez for the upcoming season. It will be interesting to see whether Fernandez chooses a transfer, or decides to remain at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming season.
