Chelsea forced to delete ‘disgraceful’ Enzo Fernandez photograph on social media
Enzo Fernandez played a major part in Argentina’s 2-1 win over England in the semi-finals of the World Cup on Wednesday, with Chelsea causing a stir on social media

Chelsea were forced to delete a photograph of Enzo Fernandez from their social media pages on Wednesday evening, amid waves of backlash from English fans.
The midfielder drew Argentina level in their World Cup semi-final clash with England at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, eradicating a lead taken by Anthony Gordon early into the second-half.
The 25-year-old found himself in acres of space on the edge of Jordan Pickford’s box, before curling the ball past the Everton goalkeeper with just five minutes left to play.
Lautaro Martinez then left the Three Lions broken with a towering header two minutes into stoppage time, to eliminate Thomas Tuchel’s side from the tournament in the cruellest of fashions.
While millions of eyes were fixed on the action worldwide, Chelsea took the opportunity to share a photo of Fernandez’s celebration on social media – writing: “Enzo Fernandez,” as the caption accompanied with an explosion emoji.
However, that decision didn’t sit right with England supporters, who were quick to vent their frustrations with those in charge of Chelsea’s social media team to the point that the club deleted the post.
One wrote: “Are you f***ing serious! We are Chelsea, we are English. England over f***ing Enzo f***ing Fernandez,” while another added: “A disgraceful post. Betrayal.”

A third said: “Chelsea FC have deleted an X post of Enzo Fernandez celebrating after the goal. Many fans were angry in the replies.”
Meanwhile, a fourth fumed: “Any club celebrating a goal against the country they represent is idiotic – no matter the player, club, or country.”
However, not all social media users were of the same opinion, some questioning why there was so much commotion. One said: “I get it, but Chelsea have to remember it has an international fanbase. Some of us fell in love with the non English players of Chelsea like Didier (Drogba) or Eden (Hazard).”
