How much Chelsea would have to pay to sign Manu Kone from Roma
Chelsea are using their ongoing negotiations with Roma as leverage to sign Manu Kone.
The Blues are currently locked in talks with Roma over the possible transfer of Alejandro Garnacho following the winger’s failed move from Manchester United just one year ago.
While Garnacho’s future remains up in the air, one player who is on an upward trajectory is France’s Kone.
Despite Les Bleus crashing out of the World Cup at the semi-finals stage earlier this week, the 25-year-old midfielder enjoyed an excellent individual tournament.
He kept Aurelien Tchouameni out of the France lineup for most of the summer, signalling just how highly he’s rated.
Therefore, it comes as little surprise to see the Roma midfielder linked with a lucrative transfer to the Premier League.
Chelsea and Manchester United interested in Manu Kone
Manchester United have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans but have included Kone on their shortlist as Michael Carrick looks to add at least one more addition.
The Red Devils now face competition from Chelsea, though. Xabi Alonso wants to bolster his options in the middle of the pitch, and obviously needs a solid replacement for the recently departed Santos.
Along with Santos, who left for £50 million, the Blues have also cashed in others. Marc Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid and Tyrique George’s permanent return to Everton has seen the club raise well over £100 million.
Keen to reinvest a large portion, Alonso, also pushing for Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix, is believed to want Kone before the close of the window.
And Roma are open to selling. The Italians know how valuable Kone is, and even more so following such an impressive World Cup campaign.
Roma’s return to the Champions League next season means they need to make signings off their own, and Kone leaving would increase their budget.
How much Roma want for Manu Kone revealed
According to TEAMtalk, any club looking to sign Kone will be told they’ll need to pay at least £50 million.
Fans might consider this valuation as a fair one. Not only was Kone one of the World Cup’s standout performers, but it’s the same fee United have just spent on Santos, and it’s clear he is no where near as proven as the Frenchman is.
Even more interestingly, despite Kone having three years left on his contract, it’s claimed he wants to move on Roma and considers the next big step in his career to be a move to England.
During his time in Italy, Kone, who now has 19 senior caps for France, has directly contributed to 10 goals in 82 matches in all competitions.
