Nottingham Forest open talks for Brazilian – Player makes contract decision

Nottingham Forest have stepped up their pursuit of Fiorentina right-back Dodô, with fresh reports from Brazil claiming the Premier League club have now opened negotiations after initial contact.

We covered claims from Italy on Wednesday that both Forest and Newcastle United had made enquiries for the Brazilian as Fiorentina prepared for his departure.

Now, Brazil’s RTI Sport state Forest have moved beyond that stage and are in discussions with the Serie A side over a deal.

The report adds there is no agreement yet, but there is optimism that talks could progress in the coming days.

Dodô has informed Fiorentina of contract choice

According to RTI Esporte, Dodô has told Fiorentina he has no intention of renewing his contract, which expires in 2027.

That leaves the Italian club weighing up a sale this summer rather than risking his value falling further as he approaches the final year of his deal.

There is also a difference in valuation between the latest reports. While ViolaNews indicated Fiorentina were seeking €16m-17m (£13.9m-14.8m), the Brazilian outlet claims the asking price currently stands at €20m (£17.3m).

The 27-year-old has become one of Fiorentina’s most consistent performers since arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2022. Last season he made 36 Serie A appearances, contributing with his attacking runs while remaining a regular starter throughout the campaign.

Nottingham Forest given fresh encouragement

RTI Esporte also claims both Fiorentina and the player are open to completing the transfer, offering Nottingham Forest further encouragement as they look to strengthen at right-back.

The report adds that Chelsea and Inter Milan are monitoring the Brazilian, while Roma previously assessed him as an option before cooling their interest after their plans changed elsewhere.

Another factor behind Dodô’s desire for a move is international ambition. People close to the defender believe playing in the Premier League would increase his visibility with the Brazilian national team as he targets a place in the squad for the 2030 World Cup cycle.

With negotiations now said to be underway, Forest appear to have taken a significant step beyond the initial enquiries reported in Italy, although the clubs still have work to do before any agreement is reached.
