Friday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport states the two English clubs are pursuing different paths.
Michael Carrick’s side have approached his entourage and found out his total willingness for the transfer even though his dream is to join Paris Saint-Germain.
The Blues talked about the France international with AS Roma when discussing Alejandro Garnacho.
Manchester United and Chelsea are expected to submit offers in the coming days. There’s no mention of a figure while the Serie A side’s expectation is to collect around €55-60m.
Red Devils ahead of Chelsea
On Saturday, France face England in the third place play-off, and Manu Koné is preparing for this clash. He asked his agent to suspend transfer negotiations during the World Cup.
That’s according to today’s Corriere dello Sport, who claim he will decide his future after this clash.
Corriere make no mention of Chelsea or any other club apart from Manchester United, who are in the front row.
The Red Devils have maintained contact with his agent but are yet to officially approach AS Roma.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are confident his World Cup displays have increased the value. They value him over €50m and have no intention of lowering the price.
A sale above €50m will result in a significant capital gain, which can help Roma carry out signings.
Roma are now waiting for an approach from the Premier League. The newspaper says the ‘feeling is that next week could be the real turning point’, and whether that’s the case remains to be seen.
A move to Old Trafford will see Koné play in the Champions League next season while Xabi Alonso’s side haven’t qualified for Europe.
