Wantaway Chelsea star in training, four new signings and Alejandro Garnacho absence

The Chelsea squad continue to be put through their paces by Xabi Alonso and his backroom staff at Cobham with the pre-season tour now just a week away from commencing

Xabi Alonso and his Chelsea squad will jet off to Sydney, Australia, next week for the beginning of the club’s pre-season tour.

In less than a two-week period, the Blues will play five matches in four different countries – with the squad set to travel to Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Malaysia. First up is the gargantuan trip to Sydney but before that, Alonso ‘s squad are being put through their paces at the club’s training base in Cobham.

Chelsea will also play two behind-closed-door friendly matches against lower-league opposition in Crawley Town and Bromley over the next week. Crawley awaits on Saturday before the Blues take on Bromley next Thursday with Alonso looking to find out as much information as possible in relation to his new players.

Every training session is a learning curve for Alonso and his staff, as well as the Chelsea players. Over the last two days, the club have released imagery from Cobham with the players putting in the hard work under the glorious Surrey sunshine.

So, with that being said, football.london takes a look at some of the things we spotted from the sessions:

Jorgensen spotted

There had not been many – if any – photos of Filip Jorgensen released by the club since Chelsea started pre-season training earlier in the month. The Blues goalkeeper informed his employers back in May that he intends to leave Stamford Bridge this summer in a bid to become a regular starter elsewhere.

Jorgensen has served the majority of his two seasons at Chelsea as understudy to No.1 goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and is looking to make a big change before the September 1 transfer deadline. Chelsea, in turn, will provide Mike Penders, returning from his loan with Strasbourg and set to join up with the squad at some point during their pre-season tour, the opportunity to battle for the No.1 jersey with Sanchez.

Despite his wish to leave, Jorgensen reported for training this week and will surely be hoping he can impress Alonso in one last bid to save his Chelsea career. However, as it stands, it looks as if Jorgensen will depart at some point this summer – with the Blues open to letting the Danish goalkeeper leave should the right offer come their way.

Four new signings train

Four of Chelsea’s new signings are still getting to grips with their new home but if the pictures are anything to go by, they look to be settling in nicely. Geovany Quenda was among those involved following his move from Sporting CP this summer, with the Portuguese winger seemingly showing off his electric speed during the session.

Emmanuel Emegha was also on the grass at Cobham. It will be interesting to see the sort of role the Netherlands international has in pre-season ahead of a big decision in the striker department for Alonso, with Nicolas Jackson set to join the squad during the tour.

Dastan Satpayev was also enjoying the hot weather in Surrey, while £47million signing Marco Palestra was continuing his adaptation following this month’s switch from Atalanta.

Garnacho absent again

One man who has not reported for pre-season training is Alejandro Garnacho. The 22-year-old winger is up for sale this summer with Chelsea looking to offload the Argentine after just one season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are demanding £42.5million for Garnacho and will not entertain loan offers. Should it be a loan with an obligation to buy, however, then the Blues’ stance could well be different.

Garnacho has not been at the club’s training base in Cobham this summer as he and his representatives look to finalise a move away. AS Roma are one of several clubs interested, with sources saying last week that things re Garnacho are expected to move quickly in the next fortnight (including the week that has just passed).
