It is safe to say some of those missing from Nuno Espirito Santo’s team sheet in Essex will not be remembered quite so fondly.

It did not go unnoticed that Niclas Fullkrug, Jean-Clair Todibo and Maxwel Cornet are nowhere to be seen even in a 24-man squad.

Fullkrug and Cornet both scored as West Ham beat Colchester United 3-2 at Rush Green in a behind-closed-doors clash earlier this week. Neither the German nor the Ivorian are involved here, though, as the Hammers look to remove the high-earning £44 million duo from their wage bill.

Jean-Clair Todibo reportedly left Nuno in no doubt about his desire to leave the London Stadium, meanwhile, telling the Hammers boss that he has no interest in playing Championship football.

Todibo’s conduct was described as ‘disgraceful’ after he stormed down the tunnel at Newcastle before allegedly refusing to play in the 3-0 final day victory over Leeds. The Frenchman is destined to leave under a cloud of his own conjuring.

“Has Fulkrug damaged his toenail again,” one of Hammers News’ Talking Point users quipped after news of the striker’s absence filtered through.

“Fullkrug, Cornet, Todibo (all missing),” another fan says on social media. “Now, there’s a message as to whether they are staying…”

“Fullkrug is as good as gone.”

“It’s a shame that Todibo turned out like that, but whatever. Mr. Axel Disasi, we’re waiting.”

Soungoutou Magassa building up his fitness as James Ward-Prowse features

Speaking of Disasi, he was spotted training alongside fellow Frenchman Soungoutou Magassa this week.

Magassa’s absence from the trip to Southend is fitness related, in stark contrast to that of Fullkrug, Cornet and Todibo.

West Ham believe the midfielder signed from Monaco can still develop into a useful member of the squad. The Hammers have not given up on re-signing Disasi either, reportedly agreeing the broad outline of a £25 million deal with Chelsea.

“Magassa injured. The others can leave,” one fan adds.

“Magassa is still recovering. Not (bothered) about the others.”

Among those who are involved, however, is James Ward-Prowse. Yet, West Ham are still keen to move on a midfielder who was immediately sidelined by Nuno and spent the second half of last season on loan at Burnley.

With the departures of Fullkrug, Todibo and Ward-Prowse expected, a trip to fifth-tier Southend provides an opportunity for the likes of Josh Ajala, Ezra Mayers, Mohamadou Kante and George Earthy to make a positive impression.
